At Once Piano Duo Steven Beck and Yalin Chi

At Once Piano Duo, Steven Beck and Yalin Chi will present a varied program including Mozart’s Sonata in B-flat major; Jeux d’enfants, a suite of twelve miniatures composed by Georges Bizet (and choreographed as a ballet of the same name by George Balanchine); Sonata for Piano Four-hands, by 20th century German composer, Paul Hindemith; and Gazebo Dances by the Pulitzer, Grammy and Oscar Award-winning contemporary composer, John Corigliano. The 4:00 pm concert at the historic Cold Spring landmark on the banks of the Hudson is free. Donations are suggested. All are welcome.

American pianist Steven Beck has garnered acclaim for his performances and recordings worldwide. Recent highlights include premieres of new piano works by Charles Wuorinen and John Zorn, and performances of Beethoven’s variations and bagatelles at Bargemusic. A frequent performer of contemporary works, Mr. Beck has worked with Elliott Carter, Pierre Boulez and Henri Dutilleux, among others. He has performed with ensembles including Speculum Musicae, the Metropolis Ensemble, the New York New Music Ensemble, and the Da Capo Chamber Players, and is a member of the Talea Ensemble and the Knights, and of Quattro Mani, a piano duo specializing in contemporary music. Mr. Beck has recorded for the Bridge, Albany and Boston Record labels.

Yalin Chi was born in Beijing, China, and made her debut with the Central Opera Orchestra before moving to the United States to study. Ms. Chi has performed at venues including Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Kumho Art Hall in Seoul, Korea, and Zhong Shan Music Hall in Beijing China. She has worked with well-known musicians around the world and regularly performs with Albany Symphony, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, and the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, where she has held the principal keyboard position since 2014. Ms. Chi holds undergraduate and masters of music degrees from the Juilliard School.

The Chapel Restoration, 45 Market Street in Cold Spring, is across from Metro-North Station, where free parking is available on weekends. This concert is made possible, in part, through Putnam Arts Council’s Arts Link Grant Program, with funds from New York State Council on the Arts, the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the State Legislature and with funds from Putnam County.
