The Southeast Museum and Brewster High School Announce: The Letters: Voices from the Great War, An Original Play About Putnam County in World War I
The Southeast Museum is proud to collaborate with the Brewster High School (BHS) Performing Arts to debut an original play for their fall production. The Letters: Voices from the Great War is based on the experiences of Putnam County residents in World War I. BHS students will immerse themselves in the time period and become the characters based on real life as they recite letters and perform period songs and poetry. Performances run through Veteran’s Day weekend, the centennial of the Armistice ending the Great War. Performance dates are Thursday November 8 at 7:00pm, Friday November 9 at 7:00pm, and Saturday November 10 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm at the BHS Performing Arts Center. Veterans will be admitted free to all shows with proof of veteran status.
2018 is the centennial anniversary of the end of World I. Putnam County answered the call to arms with 699 residents serving in various forms. Content for this original play is rooted in letters, diary entries, photographs, newspaper articles and military documents from the War. The Letters follows Putnam County residents who served in the Great War as soldiers, sailors, ambulance drivers, nurses and Red Cross workers
