John Burchetta
is among the Hudson Valley’s most successful glassmakers. He creates his own limited-edition
art glass in a 100 year old barn in Carmel. His pieces are sold in shops and boutiques
all over the world. Burchetta HotGlass is known for its colored shapes and patterns
on clear backgrounds, though there are literally hundreds of variations.

The museum features original
displays and merchandise of an old-time department store, an Industry Room and
a large collection of local newspapers. Special exhibits are held periodically
throughout the season.
County Courthouse

Built in 1814, Putnam County’s Greek Revival
Courthouse is the second oldest in New York State. Portico an pillars added in
the 1840’s. It was recently extensively remodeled to preserve the structure and
adapt it for use as the Surrogate’s Court.

The Doansburg Chamber Ensemble consists of young musicians who, along with several
guest artists, annually present a concert series of outstanding musicianship in
a charming rural church setting.
First Presbyterian

The original
church was built in 1784 and was painted bright yellow. The present structure,
much restored after a devastating fire in 1983, was built in 1833. The beautiful
tree-of-life stained glass windows were saved from the fire. The cemetery behind
the church has gravesites dating to the 18th century.

soldiers of the Revolution, including that of Enoch Crosby, the model for James
Fenimore Cooper’s hero, Harvey Birch in The Spy.

Dr. Norman Vincent Peale’s inspirational magazine is on the site of Drew Seminary
and Female College. The barnlike structure seen today was built in 1873. Call

Lake Mahopac
Mahopac, NY
A grand resort community in olden times, Lake Mahopac still offers
great water fun today. Boat, sail, fish for trout or bass, or water ski. Boaters
can launch their crafts from one of two marinas on the lake. Mahopac Marine on

At least fourteen Revolutionary
War soldiers are buried here. Cemetery buffs will find two other old cemeteries
across the street.
Our Lady of Kursk Russian Orthodox

This
church shows the beauty of Russian architecture. The icons housed here are wonderful
examples of Russian heritage. The church was home to the Kursk Root Icon for several
years from 1948. The Icon dates from the 13th Century and was believed to be responsible
for many miracles. There is now a copy of the Icon in the church. There is a gift
shop for visitors.

Sybil Ludington Statue

Sybil Ludington rode her horse “Star” for over
40 miles on roads that were barely adequate, in the dark, through country filled
with British loyalists and horse thieves-a treacherous trip for men at arms, let
alone an unarmed 16 year old. As a result of her ride, the militia assembled quickly
and fought the British who were burning Danbury and were going to burn Ridgefield.
