A Walk in Cold Spring
In order to do Cold Spring justice, the visitor is advised to enjoy this charming village on foot. Downtown Cold Spring has been restored to its 19th-century appearance and is now a mecca for collectors of antiques and collectibles. A short walk from the train station.

Constitution Island is located on the eastern shore of the Hudson River, across from West Point and near the village of Cold Spring. It is a part of the United States Military Academy, a National Historic Landmark. There are walking trails, Revolutionary War fortifications and the 1836 Warner House. The Warner family lived on the island from 1836 to 1915. Today the house still contains the original Warner furnishings. The original Warner Garden that formed the basis of the 1872 classic, “Gardening by Myself,” is still enjoyed by today’s visitor. Boat tours leave from the South Dock at West Point on Wednesdays and Thursdays from June through September. Special Saturday excursions are available June, July, and August.

The oldest cemetery in Cold Spring, dating from the 1750’s has the graves of Thomas Davenport, first settler in Cold Spring in the 1730’s, and of foundry workers and their families.

The Putnam County Historical Society & Foundry School Museum collects and exhibits historical and cultural materials pertaining to Putnam County , the West Point Foundry, and the Hudson Highlands . The museum organizes award-winning changing exhibitions of paintings, photographs, prints, maps, and objects related to the region. A permanent exhibition about the West Point Foundry is a major resource for the adjacent historic site, and foundry walking maps are available at the museum. Education programs include historic village walking tours, which are conducted every Sunday at 2pm, mid-May through mid-November. Tours meet at the base of Main Street.

Come see our diverse collection of gardens and plants: woodland and water gardens, raised alpine stone beds, cliff rock garden, perennial beds, and enclosed English-style flower garden.

Visitation: 10 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday, as well as the first and third Saturdays of each month (April - October). Admission is $5 per person. Guided tours for groups of 10 or more by appointment only.
